Edward Gray
PartnerEdward graduated from Oxford, with a first class honours degree in jurisprudence. He joined MFB in 1992, having worked for the previous eight years in Hong Kong.
Edward works with ship owners and operators on both contentious and non-contentious matters. He works with substantial energy trading companies both on shipping and sale of goods matters. He regularly acts for shipyards. He has also acted in a number of professional negligence matters.
He has handled cases in arbitration and in the High Court, the Court of Appeal, the House of Lords/Supreme Court, and through to the European Court of Justice.
On the non-contentious side, Edward has bought and sold companies and businesses, set up agencies and joint ventures, and acted in ship sale and purchase transactions.
Edward is a Supporting Member of the LMAA. He has acted as arbitrator, and is on the IGP&I panel of arbitrators. He was the BMLA delegate to the CMI working group on recognition of judicial ship sales.
Edward was recommended by Legal 500 in 2023 as a Leading Shipping Lawyer who 'always responds to the needs of the client'. He is also described as a key member of the team, singled out by peers as "extremely hard-working and diligent" in Chambers UK 2024. He is regularly named as a leading shipping lawyer and was listed in The Legal 500’s inaugural Hall of Fame in 2018.
