Eduardo graduated from the University of Cambridge. He qualified and worked as a solicitor at a Magic Circle law firm in London for four years, and joined MFB in 2005.

Eduardo specialises in shipping, including dispute resolution arising from charterparties, bills of lading, shipbuilding, ship sale, bunker supplies, general average, salvage, and total loss. He handles matters relating to a great variety of vessels, including tankers, LNG carriers, bulk carriers, containerships, offshore support vessels and superyachts among others. He is well known for seeking to resolve disputes quickly and cost effectively.

Eduardo acts for owners, charterers, cargo interests, insurers, shipyards and salvors among others on a wide range of maritime matters. Over the years, these have included many cases in arbitration under various rules (LMAA, LCIA, UNCITRAL, GAFTA and others) as well as several matters in the English Courts, including the appellate courts.

Many cases are centred on factual, technical and expert issues: the proper carriage of troublesome cargoes; the operation of a particular vessel and its machinery; the specification of a vessel’s bunkers and so on. Other cases involve complex legal questions often arising from contract. All require a thorough understanding of the commercial realities of international trade and shipping. Recent reported cases include the successful defence of a claim against a Korean shipyard for USD180 million: Teekay Tankers v STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. Ltd [2017] EWHC 253 (Comm).

Eduardo is recommended by The Legal 500 2019 for “his impressive ability to swiftly review complex legal questions, summarise them in an understandable manner and find solutions”.

Eduardo has a particular interest in Far Eastern and Latin American markets, having worked for two years in Japan. He is bilingual in Spanish and is able to review documents and to receive instructions in Spanish without translation.

Eduardo is qualified in England and Wales.

Eduardo is a Supporting Member of the LMAA.
