Jonathan joined MFB in 2003, with a background in corporate finance. He specialises in corporate and transactional work involving maritime businesses and assets. He is an expert in high-value, complex superyacht transactions, including sale and purchase, construction/refit, finance and chartering. His deals have involved some of the largest yachts in the world. He also acts for, and alongside, private client lawyers, private wealth managements and family offices in respect of their UNHW clients and for corporate service providers on their structuring and leasing arrangements.
Jonathan is well-known for his ability to analyse complex structures and contracts swiftly, to advise in plain English and to bring transactions to a close.
His experience includes cross-border joint ventures, acquisitions and group reorganisations and he regularly advises on ownership structures, leasing and finance arrangements, vessel registration and flagging issues, insurance and post-delivery chartering, management and supervision – for both superyachts and commercial vessels.
As well as private individuals, his clients include fleet owners, banks and institutional investors.
Jonathan is the firm’s contact for the British Marine Federation/Superyacht UK and ABYA Association of Brokers and Yacht Agents and is a columnist for Yacht Investor magazine and was one of the industry experts chosen to present at the exclusive Monaco Yacht Summit and for this year's Superyacht Investor Conference in London.
Jonathan is a member of the Royal Thames Yacht Club. His superyacht practice features in The Times list of the Best Law Firms 2019.
