Helene is a solicitor and Master Mariner with more than 20 years’ experience of the shipping industry including 12 years’ sea-going experience.
Helene joined MFB in 2009, qualifying as a solicitor in 2012, having successfully completed a GDL, LPC and an MA in Legal Studies. She has assisted on a wide range of shipping matters of both an admiralty and dry shipping nature, including salvage, wreck removal, collisions, unsafe ports, charterparty disputes, bunker disputes and underperformance claims.
During her sea-going career Helene gained initial Certificates of Competency and served as a Marine Officer (dual deck and engineering) with an oil major, before choosing to follow the deck discipline. She has sea-going experience of a range of vessels including oil and gas tankers, container and general cargo vessels, offshore support, cable laying, dive operations, and passenger/cargo/ro-ro ferries.
Returning to shore in 2003, Helene became Deputy Project Manager for an oil major vetting company, followed by an academic role as Head of School at one of the UK’s leading maritime training institutions prior to pursuing her legal career.
Helene is an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute, a Liveryman of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Supporting Member of the LMAA.
